Review: Twisted Little Truths by Elle Thorpe @ellethorpebooks

Twisted Little Truths by Elle Thorpe
Series: Saint View High #3
Publication date: October 26th, 2020
Pages: 313

Synopsis:
They dragged the boy I love from my arms and accused him of a murder I know he didn't commit. Now all I want is revenge.

But with secrets from my past dredged up at every turn, I have no idea who to trust.

We've lived through the lies. It's time for the truth to be revealed. No matter the cost.

They say the truth will set you free. But in Saint View, it might just kill you first.

The explosive conclusion to the Saint View High trilogy. Twisted Little Truths is the story of three bad boys and a girl who knows how to stand her ground. It is a mature high school/new adult, #whychoose romance, meaning the main character has more than one love interest. This book contains enemies-to-lovers and bullying themes and there may be triggers for some readers. It is the third and final book in an ongoing trilogy and cannot be read as a standalone.

Review:
The secrets are starting to come out and Lacey doesn't know how to handle them. The maliciousness of Owen is starting to weigh on Lacey and she devises a plan to finally catch him in the act of date raping girls so that her sheriff daddy can't do anything to refute the claims. But Owen is nothing if not prepared for the unknown. Lacey has to free Colt's ex-girlfriend from Owen's abusive clutches, protect the women of her town, find her uncle's killer, deal with the sudden appearance of her birth mother, and wrangle the three men who she has given her heart to. She's got a lot of work ahead of her.

Owen was the perfect antichrist, er, I mean antagonist. He was evil with zero redeemable characteristics. He was an abuser, a womanizer, and completely at odds with the soft-spoken Owen we met in the first book. I was so desperate to see him get what he deserved. He definitely deserved nothing less. When Lacey and him had this next face-to-face meeting alone, I thought that was the end for our female protagonist. The situation was gearing up to get her seriously hurt and when her surprise revelation, the whole thing became even more dicey.

As the plot unfolds and the enemies we knew became allies and vice versa, I didn't know who's side I was suppose to be on in any given moment. Lacey's birth mom left her but for good reason. Lacey's uncle who treated her like a princess was anything but the debonair king she would expected. Her beloved and accepting Banjo may have bitten off more than he can chew. And her aunt may have had ulterior movies we never would have even guessed. Thorpe had a wonderful way of twisting her characters and making their morality questionable and uncertain from one page to the next.

The happy ending was everything I would have hoped for. Except I would have wished Owen had more to do with Lacey's uncle's death so that he would have even more punishment for being an asshat. Twisted Little Truths was the contented sigh cherry on top of a magnificently delicious series.

Excerpt
I watch Colin and Zayne on the back porch, and it's hard not to notice how handsome Zayne is. He's over a hundred and fifty years older than me, but he doesn't look a day over thirty. His beard is short and well-kept, maybe even slightly rugged. He's not your typical wolf. But, I'm not going to lie, he fascinates me.

Colin walks in through the back door, and I turn away to make it look like I wasn't staring. I figured Zayne would follow him, but when the door doesn't open again, I peer over my shoulder to see him still on the deck, his attention turned to the mountains.

"Is he coming in?" Kami asks Colin.

"Oh, yeah," Colin answers. "He said he just needs a minute."

Colin busies himself with helping Kami, but I can't take my eyes away from Zayne. An idea pops into my head, and I smile. Moving over to the wine, I fill up my glass and turn for the door.

"Where are you going?" Kami asks.

I wink at her over my shoulder. "You say people love talking to me, so I'm going to see if it's true."

Her eyes widen. "You're going out there?"

Both her and Colin stare at me as if I'm about to walk into the lion's den. But, then again, that doesn't scare me. Nothing does anymore. Zayne's just a wolf who doesn't like to socialize with people. Unfortunately for him, I'm not going to give him a choice.

"Hopefully, he doesn't leave me hanging," I say, backing up out of the room.

Their mouths gape, but they don't try to stop me. When I get to the door, I take a deep breath and walk outside. Zayne tenses when I step onto the deck, but he doesn't acknowledge me. I move closer, but there's about three feet of distance between us. Bringing the wine to my lips, I slowly sip some down, wondering if he'll speak to me first. Of course, he doesn't, but that doesn't shock me.

Turning my body toward him, I smile and wait for him to look at me. "I'm Amelie. I don't think we've been formally introduced. I'm a good friend of Laila's."

Being around royals is always interesting. Zayne slowly turns his head my way, and it's the first time I've noticed how blue his eyes are. I can feel his power more so than any other wolf I've been around. He's strong.

"I know who you are," he says, his voice low in that sexy sort of way. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
