Room 237 by Angie Martin
Publication date: November 12th, 2021

Synopsis:
Is love truly blind?

One year after leaving her cheating boyfriend, Laney Holden can't catch a break with men. After a year of blind dates that go nowhere, she grows jaded against the male race, even with the choice men at work. When her best friend comes up with a new plan for her love life, Laney follows along, hoping to find something different.

What waits for her behind the door of room 237 in The Club is nothing like she ever expected. She meets with Alex, a mysterious man who captivates her the first time she hears his voice. He's quite possibly everything she ever wanted in a man, except he demands she's always blindfolded, and it's only casual sex.

With every steamy, blind encounter that follows, Laney's confidence grows, and she explores her world in ways she never dreamed possible. But she also becomes a little too attached, and every night brings her closer to the moment when the blindfold must come off. Will seeing Alex for the first time alter their intense chemistry? Or will it fulfill Laney's deepest desires?

Excerpt
The bartender finishes making the drink for the other member. I snag his attention and order my second dirty martini. While waiting for my drink, I turn my head and search the crowd for Becca, who seems to have vanished. I'm not mad at her. She is having a far better time than I ever could, but then again, The Club is tailor-made for a girl like her.

The bartender sets the martini down in front of me, takes my last drink token, and walks off toward someone else wanting a drink. As I lift the glass to my lips, I decide to leave after this martini. There is no point in staying any longer. I am too shy to talk to anyone and apparently no one wants to talk to me first. I just don't belong here. A very expensive lesson, but there's not much I can do at this point.

A pair of strong hands land on my hips, and a body moves to close to me. I start to turn my head, but a deep voice whispers, "Don't turn around."

My heart races out of control. The hands move from my hips around to my stomach. One hand slides upward, stopping just under my left breast, while the other hand caresses its way down to my exposed outer thigh, just below the hem of my dress. I should be terrified of a stranger touching me so intimately, but it arouses me.

"Finish your drink," the voice says. "then come to room 237. There will be a blindfold on the doorknob. Put it on and go inside the room."

I don't know what to say, so I made a noise that sounds like an affirmative.

"I'm going to leave now, but if you turn around before you finish your drink, I won't be waiting for you in the room."

The hands disengaged from my body, and the man is gone. I hold still, not daring to even pick up my drink. His voice echoes through my mind while the memory of his touch stirs up my insides, and my legs grow weak.

After a long moment, I dare to pick up my drink. I polish off half of it and place it on the bar. If I am about to have an encounter with a strange man, blindfolded, no less, then I need as much courage as the martini could provide. I pick up my glass again and drain the remaining liquid.

The bartender comes by and asks if I need anything else. Still stunned into silence, I shake my head. Wondering if it is okay to turn around now, and absolutely terrified to do so, I slowly rotate my body. No one stands behind me, and there is no sign that anyone in the room even notices me or saw the man who spoke to me. For a moment, I think I made him up, but I haven't had that much to drink yet. I swallow hard and force my feet to move to the elevator.

I live in beautiful rural Tennessee. I grew up in Wichita, Kansas and have lived all over the United States.

I have released several novels in the suspense/thriller, paranormal/supernatural thriller, and horror genres. I also have poetry and short story collections and have contributed short stories to multiple anthologies. Conduit has earned Bestseller on Amazon in the US and UK. Conduit, The Boys Club, and Chrysalis have all won highly respected awards, while Conduit, The Boys Club, and False Security have also had blogger and reader-voted awards bestowed upon them.

As a reader first, writer second, I love to discover new authors. My entire life has revolved around imaginary worlds contained within the covers of a book. My aunt introduced me to Stephen King and a little book called Christine in eighth grade, and my life was never the same. As a geek-extraordinaire, I love comics and graphic novels, and also review those, along with the occasional movie and book, as a guest contributor for Fanbase Press.
