With the quarantine it has given me a lot of time to work on my blog and try to catch up on some books I have received for review and never gotten to. It is hard to look through thousands of books and pick one without being overwhelmed. Which is why I came up with this segment. When I found out my first Random Read was a novella I was a little disappointed as I usually shy away from those (I like a lot of detail and depth to my books) but decided to let the random generator reign supreme instead of overriding it.
Sherri was supposed to be relaxing. She was supposed to spend some quality time seeing the sights and sitting poolside with a umbrella drink and zero worries. Choosing to embrace this carefree attitude she decides to have her first ever one night stand with a sexy werewolf who waltzes into her hotel, threatens a patron, and whisks her off her feet. She thought after their night of toe-curling sex that he would disappear like most guys when they finally get what they want. But after stumbling into his restaurant for a bite and coming face-to-face with him once more, it seems things are left unfinished between them. This would be a great way to have a little fling before starting her new job if the dangerous past of her new beau wasn't threatening her entire existence.
Asher is not a man who has repeat sex with a woman. He usually balks at the presence of one of his trysts in his life after they've parted ways. But surprisingly he is excited to see Sherri again and wants a repeat of what they had together more than his next breath. But his attention on Sherri has not gone unnoticed. His past troubles have seen his affection for the human and is not above using her to get what they want from Asher.
This was a stellar little read. The plot was flushed out, it was quick as novellas are meant to be, but still stuck to and covered everything set up in the book. The follow through is my hardest criticism with books these days but Staab did a great job condensing all the information and antagonistic drama so it didn't feel it was lacking anything. The only problem I found was that I had wished the book was a full-length book. I wanted more. Ash was the best brooding alpha male while Sherri was no delicate flower. Their chemistry was tangible and the relationship felt like it moved at a normal pace even with the book being smaller.
