"But, I had to fly all the way to Greenland to get a kiss from you," Gretchen teased, slowly collapsing off her knees and resting her back against the foot of the bed.
"I shouldn't have kissed you."
Zach surprised her by lowering off the chair and joining her on the floor with legs crossed and a phone cradled between them.
"I don't want you to think I brought you here to--"
"--to get some action?" she joked. The pun backfired and she felt heat flood her cheeks.
"I didn't." He took his glasses off as if exposing his eyes would reveal the truth.
It worked. She saw every facet of truth in burnished shades of gold, each more captivating than any cut of a gem.
"I know that," she whispered.
"I--" Zach looked away. "Dammit, Gretchen. I want you. I mean, I seriously want you." Those eyes swayed back and the gravity there struck her in the gut like a meteor crash-landing.
"But there's too much going on. I can't protect you if I'm--"
If you're what?
"If I'm doing to you what I want to at this moment. And to find Tim--I have to--I have to--"
"Concentrate," she offered in a thick voice.
"Right."
"Maybe we can--"
Amber eyes gliding across her face as sensually as his fingers might.
"Maybe we can just--" Where did her voice go? It was so tight, barely escaping her lips.
"Maybe we can call that a preview," he suggested in a hoarse voice. "Of what's to come. Because I want to kiss you again, Gretch. I want to kiss you so damn much." His eyes swept down. "Everywhere."
The meteor exploded. "Oh crap, professor. Don't say thing like that to me."
