The Devil's Necromancer by Alexa Piper
Series: Hellbound #1
Publication date: October 8th, 2021
Published by: Changeling Press

Synopsis:
Lionel, a necromancer and consultant for the Brunswick Police Department, wants nothing to do with immortals. Specifically, he wants nothing to do with Lucifer, who shows up on his doorstep one day with a ridiculous proposal. Lucifer, also known as the Devil, wants Lionel to be his pretend boyfriend. Except the pretend part is something the Devil doesn't really seem to care for.

Lucifer has read enough romance novels to know that a good dose of forced proximity might be just the thing to get the stubborn necromancer he desire into his bed. The Devil's plans are soon complicated when Lionel proves more uncooperative  and oblivious to love than Lucifer could ever anticipate.

While the Devil wants to claim Lionel, all Lionel wants is to get away from Lucifer. Meanwhile, magic users are being murdered in the city. Lionel cannot escape the implications of those murders for long, and the case soon takes a different turn. Will Lionel be able to escape the Devil's thrall, or will the necromancer fall for the immortal seducer?

Publisher's Note: The Devil's Necromancer contains scenes involving dubious consent that some readers may find offensive.

"You should take your mortal to bed now," Tiamat said. "He's exhausted, and I prefer taking a swim in your lake under starlight to conversation anyway."

Lucifer pulled me to my feet. "If you insist. You are most welcome to the pool as well, and the Jacuzzi of course."

Tiamat snorted. "I prefer the lake. So much more life in the mud and the silty water." She looked at me again, and those hard green eyes softened. "Take your mortal sometime, make him feel what it is to find pleasure in the living things all around him."

Lucifer laughed. "Oh, I always help Nelly find pleasure, don't worry about that."

That asshole. "You--" but before I could tell him where to shove his notice of finding pleasure, I had his lips pressed against mine again, and he shoved his tongue firmly into my mouth, that sweet and spicy taste of him overtaking the reasoning part of my brain. My cock twitched in response. Oh no, not going to happen. With all the mental effort I could muster, I bit down on the Devil's tongue.

I'd have liked for him to squeak and pull away. All the reaction I got was sort of a surprised inhale and him pulling out of the kiss without really letting his hold on me go. "Nelly, keep doing things like that, and I'll have to restrain you," he said, his voice deep and warm and seductive. Out of the corner of my eye, I caught Tiamat walking down another hallway and leaving to go for her midnight swim. "Please keep doing things like that," Lucifer whispered into my ear. "I'd really like to restrain you."

"Get off me," I said and shoved my palms against his chest. Oh, sweet gods. That chest was solid. He didn't move an inch.

"You seem to have had a bad day," Lucifer said. "And you smell of death. I'd let you tell me all about it, but when the dragon mother sends one to bed, one does not argue."

I swallowed a lump in my throat. "Stop with this bullshit already, Lucy. I. Am. Leaving. Now."

The Devil chuckled, his blue eyes focused on mine like a stormy ocean is focused on a shipwrecked sailor. "No, you're not."

His arm snaked around my waist, and he dragged me along with him through the house. I tried breaking his hold, but it was no good. He was stronger, of course. He was the Devil. I pulled my magic toward me and tried throwing that at him. With skin-to-skin contact--his fingers had somehow worked my shirt up, and he was running his thumb up and down my side where he held me--I should have been able to zap him at least, then maybe make a run for the door. I released the magic charge.
