Eli had begun to lose hope in ever meeting 102 when his cell phone rang a few minutes after he dozed off one morning after Jesse left for work in her Honda. He scrambled out of bed to pick it up from where he had left it on top of a pile of clothes during his late-night binge.
"Hello!" he answered, his chest heaving in excitement as he waited for the caller to speak.
"I'm from Tidal Tours. I hope we didn't get you at a bad time," the high-pitched female voice on the other side said after pausing for a second.
"Did you say Tidal Tours?" Eli said breathlessly.
"Yes. I'm an agent of the company. Is this a good time to speak?"
"Yes. I'm an agent of the company. Is this a good time to speak?"
"Absolutely! I've been expecting your call for months now. Please go on... Continue!"
"First, we need to confirm a few things. Are you Eli... Dubrowsky?"
"Yes! This is Eli," he said, now unable to contain himself.
"What is your contestant ID," she said tersely.
"Erm... 104."
"Everything checks out with the information we have on file. One more thing. Can you please confirm the contestant ID for your match? I promise that will be the final verification step before I tell you why I called you this morning."
"That's easy. 102," Eli blurted out like a fourth grader with an axe to grind.
