Excerpt
Connor pressed his finger to my lips. "Shh. This is where I tell you I'm full-blown over the feckin' moon for you. This is where I tell you that I want to be inside you right now more than anything in this entire world. What is happening between us is unlike anything I ever have felt before."
I could feel my heart pounding like a drum. Knowing that what he was saying wasn't a line. Knowing that this man was the real deal. I reached up and cupped his face. He leaned into my hand, much like I'd done earlier in the day. "I've never met anyone like you, Connor McGloughlin. I'm in way over my head."
"We both are, love."
"So, what do we do?" I nuzzled his neck.
Connor tightened his arms around me. I could feel his hard length pressing against my thigh. "Will you let me make love to you tonight?"
I didn't want to be just one more notch in his belt. The odds were already against us developing anything meaningful. I was halfway in love with him after only forty-eight hours. Intellectually, I knew I was in a vulnerable state. I'd just lost my mom. If we had sex and he disappeared from my life it would devastate me.
"What if I told you I wasn't ready?" I whispered.
Connor didn't say anything, just kissed my temple. He never spoke a word he didn't think about first. That he didn't mean. "I'd tell you that I'm not ready either. Once I have you, Veronica Mae Miller, and make no mistake--I will have you, that will be it. For damn sure I will never let you go."
